Types of Depression

Depression can affect everyone at some point in their life. You can get over depression and find comfort in your friends and family. Those who have depression are affected by a chemical imbalance. The imbalance may happen itself over time or may be caused by many things. You will find that if you recently have a traumatic event you may become depressed.

You may also find that if your hormones are off balance your mood will grow further and further into depression. Those who are going through puberty or those going through the change of life will notice that they may be depressed because they are going through a change in hormones. You may also find that if you are on drugs you will become a depressed person through the drug abuse.

There has been research into depression and through the research there has been noted that there are varying forms of depression. One type of depression is known as major depressive disorder. This is where someone will have five or more episodes within two weeks. Although the depression is always reoccurring the sufferer will not feel it all the time, but maybe every other day. It will probably happen for the rest of the persons life, but the episodes can be treted by getting medical help. Through medication and therapy, the suferer will be able to control their depression and will feel better.

You will find that this type of depression never goes away, but can feel like it is under control.
Then there is another type of depression known as dysthymia. This is where a person suffers from less serious symptoms. They will have trouble with eating and sleeping. They may not be getting enough, or you may be eating or getting too much sleep. In addition, people will feel tired for no reason, but still feel the need to get up out of bed. A person with type of depression is less destructive and they will be able to overcome their depression by seeking a therapist. The way you can tell if someone has major depressive disorder or someone with dysthymia is that dysthymia will not hinder a person from living their life. They will still do all of that they use to, but they will complain or act like life is so small in meaning. They still know that life has meaning, and do not seem hopeless.

Depression does not hinder just one race. You will find that not only will people of all racial groups, social groups, and personality. You will also find that it does not just affect one age group either. No matter what type of depression that you may have you can form the disorder at any age. Even little kids start to kill depression, however, those who have depression is 25-44 in age. There have been cases where children of very young ages have committed suicide because of their depression. Do not allow someone’s age make you think that they are depressed or that they won’t hurt themselves when the classic signs are there.

Obesity is on the Rise - A Dire Warning for our Children

Obesity is on the Rise - A Dire Warning for our Children:

Obesity in the children of this country has been on the rise in recent years, and the numbers are enough to concern many health care professionals. Today, as many as one in every five kids can be considered obese by the current standards on weight and obesity. This standard is calculated using the body mass index, also known as the BMI. When the BMI reaches the 95th percentile a person is considered obese. This is true for adults, as well as children and teens. While 20% of kids were labeled obese by the health care industry, another significant percentage was considered overweight. While this category is not as severe in nature, there are still health issues that can arise with being overweight, and the risk of becoming obese from this point is also much greater.

What Causes Obesity in the Children?

Obesity in children can be hereditary, but there are many other factors that contribute to the weight problem in this country that are much easier to solve. First, lack of physical activity can be directly related to the weight problems that are seen in this country. Between the television, computer and video games that vie for a child’s attention today, there is much less time or opportunity for outdoor play. The obvious solution to this dilemma is to limit the amount of time your kids spend staring at a screen of any kind, and to encourage them to go outside and ride bikes and scooters, play basketball, and simply run off energy. Parks are abundant in communities today, so regular outings to these locations should be a part of every family’s routine.

The second factor that contributes greatly to obesity in children is the abundance of less than healthy choices in food. Between the junk food at the grocery store and the fast food that is available on every corner, fresh fruits and vegetables barely stand a chance. You can help to reverse this trend with your own children by ensuring that there are many healthy selections in your pantry and refrigerator for them to choose from, and modeling good behavior by munching on an apple rather than a cookie. Be aware of the meals that your child’s school cafeteria is offering as well. If the menu consists mainly of high calorie, low nutrition items like fast food, talk to your school’s governing body about changing the menus, or encourage your child to bring sack lunches.

Obesity in our children is a problem of epidemic proportions today. The good news is that there are steps that parents, educators and health professionals can take to ensure that our kids are as healthy and happy as they can be.

What is a stroke?

What is a stroke?

There are many people that have to deal with the problems of having a stroke at some point in their life. This is not something that is going to be easy to get through but it is possible. A stroke is a disease that is going to affect blood vessels that supply blood to the brain.

A stroke will usually happen when a blood vessel that brings oxygen and nutrients to the brain bursts or is clogged by a blood clot or some other mass. This is thought of as a rupture or a blockage and part of the brain does not get the blood and oxygen that it needs. This is a very dangerous and scary time for anyone to go through. This means not only the people that have the stroke but also for the people that are around when this ordeal is going on.

When there is not enough oxygen the nerve cells in the affected area of the brain, which causes them to not work, and this means that the part of the body that they control does work right either. This is a very hard problem to deal with and especially after a severe stroke has taken place. There can be permanent damage to the brain cells, which cannot be replaced.

There are two types of stroke. One is the Ischemic stroke that is cause by a blockage of the blood vessels. The other is called a hemorrhagic stroke and bleeding causes this. Bleeding strokes have a much higher death rate that is caused by clots.

The Ischemic stroke is the most common form. It is going to occur when a blood clot forms and blocks the flow in an artery bringing blood to part of the brain. Blood clots usually form in the arteries of the brain. This is called a cerebral thrombosis stroke. This is going to usually happen first thing in the morning or at night.

A hemorrhagic stroke is a hemorrhage that occurs when a blood vessel on the brains surface ruptures and bleeds into the space between the brain and the skull. A cerebral hemorrhage will happen when a defective artery in the brain breaks and this will fill the surrounding tissue with blood.

When a blood vessel in the brain bursts, pressure from the blood will compress part of the brain. If the person does happen to live through this ordeal, the pressure will eventually go away. Then the brain may regain some of its former function again. It is important to seek medical treatment as soon as possible when a stroke occurs. This way a person can get the help and the treatment that they need to recover and live through this devastating ordeal that can cause great damage to a person’s physical and mental well being.

The Different Types of Arthritis

Arthritis can be an incredibly painful and even debilitating disease, and it is in fact one of the most common diseases in the world. What many people do not know is that there are actually different types of arthritis, as many people assume that all arthritis pain is the same.

By understanding about the different types of arthritis that are out there, you will be able to tell between the different signs and symptoms, and you will thus be able to be more accurate if you start getting arthritis pains, in terms of recognizing which type it is, and this is incredibly important because this is the only way that you will be able to get the proper form of treatment for your arthritis.

Types of Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is one of the most common types of arthritis, affecting over two million Americans at the present time. Rheumatoid arthritis is a symmetric disease, meaning that it usually involves the same joints on both sides of the body, unlike most other types of arthritis.

The exact cause of rheumatoid arthritis is actually unknown, however many doctors believe that a virus or a bacterium may prompt it to develop in those people who have a genetic predisposition to it. Then there are those experts who think that it is an autoimmune disease, in that the body tissue is the victim of an immune response against itself.

Another type of arthritis is osteoarthritis, and this particular type of arthritis is the one that people think of as being associated with aging, as osteoarthritis affects the weight-bearing areas of the body, such as the spine, hips, knees, base of the thumbs, and the feet, for example.

Psoriatic arthritis is yet another very common type of arthritis, and this one is a potentially serious inflammatory form of arthritis that is often found in association with psoriasis. As well, because it is able to begin and progress rather insidiously, it is thus able to cause very serious and detrimental problems, which is why early diagnosis and aggressive intervention are not only recommended but in fact necessary for this type of arthritis.

The only real way that you can be sure to know what type of arthritis you have is by making an appointment with your doctor so that they can complete a full examination on you and be able to make the proper diagnosis as well as prescribe you with the proper treatment.

Premature Ageing May Be Caused By Lifestyle

Filed under: Uncategorized — tonyd @ 8:53 pm

Premature Aging May Be Caused By Lifestyle

While most people accept getting old as part of a predetermined life cycle, others fight it tooth and nail as though they have a chance to turn back the clock. Still others suffer premature ageing, in part due to their lifestyle as well as genetic predisposition. In the absence of any rare accelerated ageing diseases, looking at the parents should give a person an idea of whether they are suffering premature ageing or if the ageing process is all in their heads.

Many spout the saying that a person is only as old as they feel, and with modern medicine able to cure many ailments as well as make sufferers of other diseases more comfortable, many appear to be feeling younger than they actually are. Others, on the other hand, may be under the influence of their lifestyle environment and are showing the effects of premature ageing way before their time. Learning to distinguish the difference between calendar years and physical years can present a mental attitude to help extend a natural life.

However, for many people their appearance is the true sign of their age. Often they look in the mirror and comment about how old they look and in some cases, persons in their 30’s and 40’s may appear to be the target of premature ageing and look much older due to their lifestyle.

Youthful Activities Can Come Back To Haunt Middle Age

For those who spent years on the beach under the sun or in tanning beds attempting to turn their skin a color that nature did not intend, may find dried out, wrinkled skin taking the place of their youthful appearance. Sun damaged skin is a prominent sign of premature aging and can be prevented by taking the proper protective steps while young.

Still others have made a living outdoors in the sun, such as fishermen or boat captains and the sun may have worked with exposure to salt water to damage their skin to show signs of premature ageing. The signs of ageing usually are obvious on the face, neck. Hands and arms, but other signs of premature ageing, such as lines around the mouth, eyes and forehead can often be masked by skin treatment to bring back the youthful appearance.

A balanced nutritional diet and proper exercise can help keep the physical aspect of premature ageing out of the picture, but even some of those who exercise regularly work the wrong muscles for appearance purposes while the muscles that can save their skin and overall appearance from the look of premature ageing often go ignored.

The World Is Bursting At The Seams

The Land Of Plenty Is Bursting At The Seams

Obesity is a growing concern in America. It is estimated that more than 97 million Americans are now overweight or obese.

Many people do not realize that being overweight easily falls into the “obese” category. The National Institute of Health (NIH) considers a person obese is they weight more than 20 percent more than what is medically considered their ideal bodyweight. This additional 20 percent of body weight is responsible for many different health issues and causes many real health concerns for those that are carrying these extra pounds.

Obesity is a health concern for over one-third of the adult population, so it is not surprising that the weight of the American children and teenagers is becoming an additional concern. Studies show that between 5-25% or more of children are becoming obese. Health professionals are becoming increasingly alarmed as the increase in weight of people shows no sign of abating. This continues to increase the health concerns for children and adults alike.

The Tools For Measuring Obesity Don’t Reveal Good News For America

Defining obesity is measured by the use of two different tools; body mass index (BMI) or waist measurement. These two tools for body fat and obesity measurement are universal in the medical field. Body mass Index (BMI) is the comparative use of the measurement of body weight to the proportionate measurements of body height. This is generally the most common measurement system used by health professionals when diagnosing obesity.

Waist circumference is a way to use the patient’s abdominal fat to determine obesity. Successful analysis using the waist circumference method of measuring obesity is done by measuring the patient’s abdominal fat. Medical specialists have determined that the body fat around the waist of both men and women is now proven to be the major cause for health concerns. Measuring this region of the body is now used as a tool to diagnosis obesity and obesity related diseases; men with a waist measurement over 40 inches and women with waist measurements over 35 inches are generally considered to be overweight when using this tool.

If You Or Someone You Love Has A Problem, Then Help Them To Resolve It

Many people in America do not realize that they are officially considered obese. Often people will describe their weight as a “problem”, but do not realize just how true that statement is. In regards to their health risks these extra pounds are impressing heavily upon their lives. If you or someone you love is clinically obese, it is important that you do everything you can to assist their success in losing that excess unhealthy body fat. It really can become a matter of life or death.

What is Divorce?

Filed under: Uncategorized — tonyd @ 9:51 pm

What is a divorce?

There are many couples today that cannot make their marriage work and they jump to the conclusion that they must get a divorce. This is something that both parties may agree to. Altenatively, just one person in the relationship may have this idea on their mind. Either way, it is the ending of a marriage and something that needs to be thought about very carefully before doing it.

A divorce will sometimes be called a decree of dissolution of a marriage. It is something that has to go through the courts and no other way. You cannot have just anyone terminate your marriage. It is a final and a very serious matter when two people need to think about when their marriage is making them unhappy. However there are things that a couple can do first before they decide to actually get divorced.

A divorce is the termination process of a valid marriage between two people. There are different reasons for divorce for different people. Many times a couple will try many other actions before they go ahead and file for a divorce. They may try counseling or even talking to one another. They may even decide to take a vacation away from everyone else and try to work it all out. Sometimes it is just not possible to get through all the hard times and to move past them with a happy marriage. It is sometimes the only choice between two people.

With a divorce the parties or a court will resolve all the issues that are between them such as the house, property that they own, child custody and visitation as well as support in the form of money and from whom. There are many people that manage to end their marriage peacefully, and yet there are others that make it drag on for many years because they cannot agree on anything for the divorce.

A divorce is going to be hard on all the parties involved especially children. This is something that can really upset them. It is important to make sure that they get the care and the love that they need, and to understand that everything will eventually be all right, and that they are not to be concerned with anything that the adults go through. This will
help to comfort them and to give them some of the secure feeling that all children need in this time of separation.

Divorce does not mean that the two people that were once married can no longer speak to each other, or indeed, have a normal friendship. In fact it is recommended that if there are children involved, then the divorced parents need to work together to make a divorce as easy as possible for them. This will keep everyone happy and make the divorce not seem so cold as many do.
